Everyone needs one!

Listening To: Out of Control by Kenna(Free Single of the week on iTunes!)

I had seen people make body doubles of themselves out of duct tape. You know, duct-tape dress forms? Seeing as I don’t make many sweaters, I never really had the need for one, even though they looked like fun to make!

Well, today while surfing I found a tutorial for this:

I am a Handknit sock model!

A body-double of my foot? That’s just my kinda thing. Perfect for modeling my socks. Now that’s just fun.

And making it? Well, that was an experience.

Mom was my lovely assistant. I printed out the instructionsfor her, but she didn’t listen to them. She just wrapped me up all willy-nilly. And when it came to the cutting? Well, I was just a little nervous:

She kept telling me to stop yelling, but I could have sworn she was gonna cut a big gash into my leg. But, she didn’t, and it turned out pretty well!

Don’t I look lovely in my new sock?

Every sock knitter needs one of these. It takes less than one roll of duct tape, and it was pretty easy. I’m sure you’ll see many a sock modeled by my fake foot.

In other news, Mom and I went to Michael’s yesterday, and she bought, like, 5 more balls of dishcloth cotton, and I bought:

Yarn with Vanna White’s face on the label. The yarn is acrylic, but it’s pretty soft, and I knit a swatch with it, and it didn’t feel very arcylic-y, so it’s fine with me.

I bought 4 balls of “Olive” and 5 of “Navy”. I’m thinking a Stripe-y cardigan like Sesame? Who knows what I come up with. Like I need another project to work on. Yeah right.

  1. Oh come on now… would your lovely assistant really cut a gash into your leg?… I wouldn’t want you to bleed all over my messy office.

Oh, we do have our fun “Laverne and Shirley” escapades, don’t we?

  2. [...] – go see what Kaity and I did [...]

  3. Hah! My goodness, that looks like some of the goofy stuff we would have done way back when! Only there would have been mascara and boys involved!

  4. wow.. that is really cool! I really want to make a duct tape dress form but I’m terrified of the “cutting off” part.

  5. Very cool! Thanks for the link. :-)

  6. That’s awesome!! I need to make one right away.

Your mom isn’t going to gash your leg because she knows she’d have to wait in the ER with you. Then again, maybe that would be good knitting time. Either way, I’m glad you’re okay and your purple foot is great.

  7. That’s just too funny! Would you believe I remember Mom and the aunts making that dress-form thing…….out of brown wrapping tape that you soaked in water first and then applied to some sucker wearing a man’s t-shirt. I’m going to remind them of that, but I’ll bet they don’t own up to it.

  8. That sock form is too cool!

  9. Great project with impressive results! And I think your new Vanna yarn would look great in that pattern. What’s one more project huh??;-)

  10. What a great project! I have so got to try this!

  15. [...] Styrofoam carving? I don’t think so. At Helen’s suggestion I briefly considered trying this… but the thought of making more than one, or more than half-a-dozen, was too much for me. [...]
